JOURNEYMAN TRAINING CLASS SCHEDULE 2008

Journeyman Training Classes are about to start.  The Training Center is here to help you meet the needs of our industry.  Maintaining craft skills, to insure a good future, is your responsibility.  Enroll now and gain from the journeyman upgrade classes available to you as a member of Local 33.

Each class will be 12 hours, in 3-hour sessions, unless otherwise specified.  There will be a minimum fee per class plus a textbook fee.  We will attempt to make these as interesting and helpful to you as possible.  However, it is required that at least ten journeymen be enrolled to enable us to hold the class.

Journeymen in Sioux City, Fort Dodge, Mason City and Ottumwa:  If enough interest is shown for a class or classes, we will attempt to hold classes in your area.

Print and complete the Journeyman class registration form and return to Local 33, JATC or call 515-244-1346 to register for these Journeyman classes.

January 7-10, 2008

REFRIGERATION, AIR CONDITIONING & ELECTRICAL CONTROLS I:
This class will cover refrigeration principles, trouble shooting and electrical.  Our refrigeration trainers will be featured in this class.  This will be the first of several trainer classes.  (12 hours)
Monday through Thursday 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Fee:  $20.00

January 14-17, 2008

PLUMBING CODE:  This course will cover code changes, gas pipe sizing, water pipe sizing and waste and vent sizing.  It will also help you prepare for journeyman and master plumber exams.  Let us know if you need a codebook. (12 hours)
Monday through Thursday 5:00-8:00 p.m.   Fee:  $20.00 plus code book

January 21-24, 2008

REFRIGERATION, AIR CONDITIONING & ELECTRICAL CONTROLS II:
This class is a continuation of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Electrical Controls.  This course will cover reading electrical schematics and their use in trouble shooting systems; we will be using many of our HVAC trainers.

January 28-31, 2008

BASIC WELDING CLASS and/or UA WELDING CERTIFICATION PREP: 
Basic welding and/or preparation for UA Weld Certification Testing.  (12 Hours)
Monday through Thursday 5:00-8:00 p.m.     Fee: $20.00 plus book


February 4-7, 2008

ELECTRICAL CONTROLS: This class will cover various electrical controls used in HVACR systems.  The course will use our trainers and continue to work with wiring schematics for trouble shooting.
Monday through Thursday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.        Fee:  $20.00 


February 11-15, 2008

BACKFLOW TESTER CERTIFICATION:  This course will cover installation, testing and service of theses devices.  You will be certified as a Backflow Prevention Tester upon completion of this course and testing.  (32 hours)
Monday through Friday 5:00-10:00 p.m., with review and test on Saturday.  
Fee: $30.00 plus book

February 18-22, 2008

MEDICAL GAS SYSTEMS:  This course will cover the installation of medical gas systems and brazing.  You will be certified as a Medical Gas Installer and as a Medical Gas Brazer upon completion and testing.  (32 hours)
Monday through Friday 5:00-10:00 p.m. with test out on Saturday, February 23, 2008.
Fee:  $125.00 plus code book

February 25-28, 2008

GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS Technology changes quickly and so does our industry.  Geothermal heat sources are a popular way to use nature and technology for comfort systems.  The Training Center is offering a Geothermal Heat Systems course.  This course will cover geothermal technology, system layout, piping installation, pump sizing, and trouble shooting.  (12 hours)

March 3-6, 2008

PRINT READING & ISOMETRIC DRAWING:  This class will start with basic drawing skills and finish up drawing 3-dimentional, isometric drawing and print reading.   (12 hours)

March 10-13, 2008

BUILDING AUTOMATED SYSTEMS:  This class will be an introduction to
Building Automation Systems which will feature our DDC controls system trainer; we will be using the control system that’s in our building which features a Johnson Controls Metasys System.  We will also be using some DDC software in our computer lab.

March 17-20, 2008

MECHANICAL SYSTEMS:  This class will cover an overview of steam, hot water heating, chilled water, air conditioning mechanical systems.  The systems covered are in place and operating in the training center's new addition.  In addition piping installation practices and water treatment will be discussed.  This class will connect with the Building Automation class that the training department will offer in the following weeks.

March 24-27, 2008

COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS:
This class will conduct accurate combustion and emissions testing.  We will feature our Bacharach ECA-450 tester.  The ECA-450 is a state-of-the-art instrument used for sampling boilers and other industrial combustion equipment.  This class will enable the mechanic to make accurate equipment adjustments and better access pollution levels.
Monday through Thursday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.        Fee:  $20.00

March 31-April 3, 2008

CHILLERS
This class will consist of:  Chiller maintenance, controls and repair.
Monday through Thursday 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Fee:  $20.00

April 7-10, 2008

RIGGING
The Rigging Class will consist of safe lifting practices, learning load requirements and individual personal protective equipment.  This class will utilize the crane rail in our building's new addition.
Monday through Thursday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.          Fee:  $20.00 plus book
